These plantations produce renewable timber from Brazilian saplings, meaning no indigenous or wild-grown mahogany is used in our custom mahogany furniture. Swietenia Macrophylla produces the highest grade of mahogany, prized for its sumptuous grain, colour, strength and ease for working. Unlike lesser furniture made from Luan Mahogany (a white/blonde or red mahogany also known as Philippine Mahogany), our custom mahogany furniture is created exclusively from premium timber.
As with all our furniture, our custom mahogany furniture is made from timber of the species Swietenia Macrophylla, which is grown in sustainable plantations in Java established by the Dutch centuries ago.
After selecting the piece of timber best suited for your particular item, we harvest it and dry it in our kilns for 12 days until it reaches the optimal condition for furniture making
Our craftsmen then use a combination of carving chisels and gouges with mallets to create the details, and straight chisels for the joinery.
Once we remove the timber from our kiln we allow it to rest before carving. The various sizes are selected and the raw lengths for the piece of furniture are cut. We create an exacting template for each piece to delineate every detail and aspect of the design.
Using time honoured furniture making techniques they meticulously create the final piece of furniture to your precise specifications, then hand finish them to bring out the natural grains and lustrous beauty of your item.
